Information Literacy Class

If you would like to learn about obtaining reliable sources for speeches, research papers and projects, you are invited to schedule an information literacy class in the Library.

Library staff will instruct the students in online database searching, evaluating Internet sources, discuss plagiarism, and provide hands-on time for students to practice their new learned skills.

What are the topics covered in information literacy classes?

  • Searching Scholarly Information using WorldCat Discovery

  • Learn to use Bibliographic Software Management (EndNote/ Mendeley)

  • Learn to use Plagiarism Software Checker, Turnitin

  • Search library local content on Institiutional Repository (DSpace)

How do I schedule an information literacy class?

  • Lecturers can bring their students to the library or have a librarian visits their classes to teach students the process of information searching and retrieval.

When do you conduct the information literacy classes?

  • We produce library instruction classes schedule from time to time

  • Lecturers can contact our librarian at +604 988 5410 / +604 979 8601 to request for a session

  • Please allow at least 4 days for class preparation

Where are classes conduct?

  • Infoaccess Lab located at Noise Zone Area, Library Level 2, Main Campus Pauh Putra. Our lab can accommodate to 40 seats per session.

  • Any location requested by lecturers

Do I need to attend an information literacy class?

  • Definitely yes

  • You need to acquire skills on selecting relevant resources and finding information effectively for your assignments and research projects

  • You need to learn tips on information searching such as using Boolean operators, keywords, phrases and wild cards

  • You need to use various information resources to satisfy your research works

Can the library teach information searching skills for my research methodology classes?

  • Yes, we encourage more lecturers to request a slot for their research methodology classes

  • Lecturers can provide 1 to 2 hours slot for our information literacy session

  • We can either organize the class at our Infoaccess Lab or any location requested by the lecturers
