This course reviews the earlier course of Solid Mechanics I regarding axial load, torsion, bending and shear. Students will be exposed to problems of thin-walled tubes having closed cross sections and bending deformation of a straight member. The course also discusses the solution of problems
where several internal loads occur simultaneously on a member’s cross section. The deflection of beam problems is taught using various methods including the application of energy methods. This energy method covers the principle of conservation of energy, virtual work and Castigliano’s theorem.
