In every building and civil engineering projects or office renovation works, taking-off building quantities is an important job necessary to assess the construction cost of a project. This job needs someone who has the skills and knowledge to take-off building quantities independently from site measurements as well as project drawings. Such a person is called a “Taker-off”. Today, the building designs are increasingly complex. A good “Taker-off” must have good working knowledge of building technology, building services, building measurement; interpret architectural, structural and services drawings accurately; understand the standard method of measurement and/ or appreciate building costs. He must also be proficient in computer applications to achieve greater productivity in taking-off building quantities. This course will enhance participants’ knowledge and competencies in carrying out building measurement work. It allows participants to move into roles of higher supervisory or management-related positions and opens up opportunities for those who wish to switch careers as a “Taker-off”, and estimator or a quantity surveyor.
